Confessions of a runner: I never learned to run! (NOBLE Running form)

Confessions of a runner: I never learned to run! (NOBLE Running form) Currently I am resting off an injury. Just before this, I was setting my sights on my most ambitious distance run to date. I have always considered myself athletic. I sometimes consider myself an athlete. Until my recent setback I was on a huge upswing. I have cleaned up my diet . I got back into weight training. I developed a comprehensive training program, almost a full year until race time! I was feeling super confident about my scenario. Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle at work. Worse, I went out and hiked/ran on it. (What can I say, I had plans?). Part of my upswing, how I started running faster than I have in years, was as simple as: Learning how to run! I have a confession: I NEVER LEARNED TO RUN! In my youth my sport was Soccer. I rode my bike extensively (once my parents let me stray farther and farther). I tried a season of football (not pretty), when I got into college I fell out...

Slow - Carb Diet (SCD)

Slow - Carb Diet (SCD) My Birthday is December 1. I am not sure if I am navigating through a life-crisis, or if this is just… life. They told me I was an ‘adult’ when I turned 18. I was not. What does this have to do with nutrition? I guess I never thought much about it, I just went along even if I was eating processed frozen or deep fried crap.   What I do know: I had lived 37 years of life without giving a second thought to what I put into my body regarding food, alcohol, quantity or quality. I had just come across the first chapters of 4-hour body. I was intrigued by the concepts: Small changes for big results. Even I could make small changes. Minimum Effective Dose. Why would I do more than needed? As I mentioned here I took to ‘Alternative Training’ methods in hopes of getting a personal best time in a r...

Alternative Training

Alternative Training (e pluribus unum) Training is always an evolving topic. There’s a long standing school of thought that the best way to train for sport X is to DO sport X. Basketball, running, climbing, racecar driving. Of course, we all know the concept of cross-training. This has become the new school utility tool of training. Crossfit is a hugely successful brand based on this concept. I’ve been in both of the above schools of thought. Generally it makes sense to me that if you’re active, especially in a goal oriented manner you will progress. It’s not always possible to progress in all directions simultaneously, but what if we could? About a year ago (mid-December 2016 to be exact) I wondered this. I had become infatuated with Tim Ferriss @tferriss. I live in a small community of superhumans high in the mountains of Colorado. I have always aspired to be like them, despite being a mortal. Partly for this reason I had never been exposed to Tim’s work before, but bega...
